A well-timed discount moves stock and rewards loyal buyers. vFile lets you set up discounts that apply automatically during a sale, so your team never has to remember the offer or do the maths.
Creating a discount #
Go to vfile.app/discount and add one. You can target it by:
- Products, categories or brands the discount applies to.
- Customer group, if the offer is only for certain buyers.
- A percentage or fixed discount, with a start and end date.
- A priority, so the right offer wins if two overlap.
Worked example #
You want to clear seed stock with a one-week offer.
- You open Discounts and create Seed Week: 10% off the Seeds category, from Monday to Sunday.
- You activate it.
- On Tuesday, a customer buys Corn AG 603 at ₨5,000. On the POS, the 10% comes off automatically, so they pay ₨4,500.
- After Sunday the discount stops on its own — prices return to normal with no action from you.
What this affects #
- Selling price during the offer — matching products are discounted automatically at billing.
- Profit — the lower price reduces your margin on those sales, visible in the Profit & Loss report.
- The discount applies only within its dates — outside them, normal prices apply.
- A discount changes price only — it does not by itself move stock; the sale does that.
Frequently asked questions #
Do I have to apply the discount manually on each sale?
No. Once active, it applies automatically to matching products during its date range.
Can I limit an offer to certain customers?
Yes — target the discount at a customer group so only those buyers get it.
Two discounts overlap — which one applies?
The one with the higher priority. Set priorities to control this.
