Moving stock between locations #
If you run more than one branch or warehouse, a Stock Transfer moves products from one location to another. The sending location’s stock goes down and the receiving location’s stock goes up.
Creating a transfer #
- Go to vfile.app/stock-transfers and add one.
- Choose the Location (From) and Location (To).
- Add the products and quantities to move, and a status (Pending / In Transit / Completed).
Worked example #
Your Multan branch is short of seed while Sahiwal has plenty.
- You open Stock Transfer and set From: Sahiwal, To: Multan.
- You add 50 bags of Corn AG 603 and mark the transfer In Transit while the truck is on the road.
- Sahiwal’s stock drops by 50 straight away.
- When Multan receives the goods, you mark the transfer Completed, and Multan’s stock rises by 50.
What this affects #
- Stock at both locations — Sahiwal down 50, Multan up 50; your total stock is unchanged, just relocated.
- Cost stays consistent — the bags keep their cost value as they move, so profit is unaffected.
- No ledger or accounting effect — a transfer is internal movement, not a sale or purchase.
Frequently asked questions #
What does the “In Transit” status do?
It shows the goods have left one branch but not yet arrived at the other, so both teams know the stock is on the way.
Does a transfer charge either branch?
No. Nothing is billed — stock simply moves. You can add shipping charges to record the delivery cost if you wish.
The receiving branch got fewer items than sent — what now?
Confirm the true received quantity before marking it Completed, and record any shortfall as a Stock Adjustment.
