What are customer groups? #
Customer groups let you classify customers — for example Dealers, Retail, VIP or by region. Groups make it easy to report on and manage similar customers together, and can be combined with pricing rules.
Creating a group #
- Go to the customer groups screen under Contacts and add a group.
- Give it a name and (optionally) a price calculation, such as a percentage over the default price.
- Open a customer and set their customer group.
Worked example #
You want to track and reward your best buyers.
- You create a group called VIP.
- You assign your top dealers — Malik Farm Store and Al-Karam Traders — to the VIP group.
- At month-end you filter your sales report by the VIP group and instantly see how much this segment bought and how much they still owe.
- You decide to give VIPs a small standing discount by linking the group to a price group.
What this affects #
- Reporting — you can filter and analyse customers by group, revealing your best and slowest segments.
- Pricing — when tied to a price group, members automatically get that tier’s prices.
- Grouping is a classification — it changes no balances by itself.
Frequently asked questions #
What is the difference between a customer group and a price group?
A customer group classifies customers for reporting and management. A price group sets prices. They work well together but do different jobs.
Can a customer be in more than one group?
Each customer has one customer group at a time; change it whenever you like.
Do I have to use groups?
No — they are optional, but very useful once you have many customers.
