The Cash Register helps a counter reconcile its cash for each shift — you open the register when you start, sell through the day, and close it to compare what the system expects against what is really in the drawer.
Opening & closing #
- Open the register at vfile.app/cash-register at the start of a shift.
- Sell as normal — cash sales, card and other payments are tallied as you go.
- Close the register at the end to see the totals and note the actual cash counted.
Worked example #
Your cashier, Imran, starts his morning shift.
- Imran opens the register.
- Through the day he takes ₨85,000 in cash sales and ₨40,000 by card.
- At closing, vFile shows the expected cash of ₨85,000. Imran counts the drawer and enters the actual amount.
- If the count matches, the shift balances; if not, the difference is visible so it can be investigated.
What this affects #
- Register report — each shift’s totals by payment type are recorded for review.
- Cash control — comparing expected vs actual reveals shortfalls or errors quickly.
- The register summarises sales already made — it does not itself change stock or a customer’s ledger.
Frequently asked questions #
Do I have to use the cash register?
No, it is optional — but it makes end-of-shift cash reconciliation much easier and more accountable.
What if the counted cash does not match?
The difference is shown at closing so you can investigate a miscount, a missed sale or an unrecorded expense.
Does closing the register affect my sales figures?
No. It reports on sales already recorded; it does not change them.
